Getting Started
Installation
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for "Thoth: The Unknown"
- Tap Get → Install
- Open the app and start your first reading
First Steps
- Daily Card: On the home screen, tap "Daily Card" to draw your card of the day
- Full Spread: Tap "New Reading" and choose a spread (Three-Card, Five-Card, or Celtic Cross)
- Card Library: Browse all 78 cards to learn meanings and symbolism
- Reading History: View all past readings in the History tab
Features & How to Use
Daily Card
Draws a single card each day and provides its upright and reversed meanings. One daily card per day — resets at midnight in your timezone. The reading is automatically saved to your history.
Three-Card Spread — Past · Present · Future
A classic quick reading for a snapshot of any situation. Position 1 shows what led here, Position 2 shows what's happening now, Position 3 shows where things are heading.
Five-Card Spread
Situation · Challenge · Advice · Outcome · Hidden Influence. Great for nuanced guidance on a specific question, especially when the Three-Card feels too brief.
Celtic Cross
A comprehensive 10-card spread for deep, detailed readings. Covers the core issue, what opposes it, your perspective, external influences, hopes and fears, and the final outcome. Best for complex questions that need thorough exploration.
Card Library
A browsable reference for all 78 cards. Tap any card to see its full image, upright and reversed meanings, keywords, themes, and affirmations. Organized by suit: Major Arcana, Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles.
Reading History
Every reading is saved and organized by date, newest first. Tap any past reading to view full details. Swipe to delete (cannot be undone).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Thoth: The Unknown just for spiritual people?
Not at all. Many people use tarot for reflection, self-discovery, and creative thinking — regardless of spiritual belief. You get out of it what you bring to it.
Where are my readings stored?
All readings are stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's encrypted on-device storage. They never leave your device and are never uploaded to any server.
Can you see my readings?
No. We have no access to your readings, history, or any personal data. Everything is private to your device.
What happens to my readings if I delete the app?
Readings are permanently deleted when you uninstall the app. Cloud backup is on our roadmap for a future update.
Does the app track me?
No. We don't use analytics, tracking, or advertising services of any kind. Your usage is not collected or shared.
Can the same card appear twice in a reading?
No. Once a card is drawn in a reading it cannot appear again in that same spread — just like a physical tarot deck.
Can I use this on iPad?
Thoth: The Unknown is currently optimized for iPhone. iPad support may come in a future update.
Should I rely on tarot for major life decisions?
Tarot is a tool for reflection and perspective, not a replacement for professional advice. For medical, legal, or financial matters, always consult a qualified professional.
Troubleshooting
App won't open / crashes on startup
- Force-close the app and restart your iPhone
- Ensure your iPhone is running iOS 17 or later (Settings → General → Software Update)
- Check available storage — Thoth requires ~50 MB free
- Delete and reinstall from the App Store
Readings not saving
- Confirm you have at least 50 MB of free storage
- Restart the app (swipe up to close, then reopen)
- If the problem persists, reinstall the app
Daily card not updating
- Check Settings → General → Date & Time — automatic time zone must be on
- Force-close the app and reopen it
- Restart your iPhone
Cards appear blurry or distorted
- Update to the latest version in the App Store
- Restart your iPhone
- If you see this on a specific device, contact us with your model and iOS version
Reading History is empty
Readings save automatically at the end of each spread. If you closed the app mid-reading, that reading won't be saved. If you recently reinstalled the app, previous readings cannot be recovered.

We aim to respond within 48 hours. When reporting a bug, please include your iPhone model, iOS version, and steps to reproduce.
