Getting Started
Installation
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for "Thoth: The Unknown"
- Tap Get → Install
- Open the app and start your first reading
Create Your Account
Thoth: The Unknown requires a free account so your readings can sync securely across your devices. Sign in with Apple or with your email (we send a one-tap magic link — no passwords). You must be 18 or older; a date of birth confirming this is required at setup.
First Steps
- Daily Card: On the home screen, tap "Daily Card" to draw your card of the day
- New Reading: Choose a spread — five are free, six deeper spreads unlock with Pro — then set an intention and draw
- AI Interpretation: Let the app weave your cards into a personal reading (free readings each day; unlimited with Pro)
- Card Library: Browse all 78 cards to learn meanings and symbolism
- Reading History: View all past readings in the History tab

Spreads
Thoth: The Unknown offers eleven spreads. Five are free, and six deeper spreads unlock with Pro:
- Daily Card (Free) — one card each day; resets at midnight in your timezone
- Single Card (Free) — a focused one-card draw for a quick, clear signal
- Yes / No (Free) — a single card read for a direct question
- Past · Present · Future (Free) — the classic three-card snapshot
- Mind · Body · Spirit (Free) — three cards across each dimension of yourself
- Five-Card Theme (Pro) — Situation · Challenge · Advice · Outcome · Hidden Influence
- Abundance Mandala (Pro) — a six-card mandala on flow, gratitude, and growth
- Seven-Card Cross (Pro) — a focused cross for working through a decision
- Big Picture (Pro) — an eight-card cross for a wide, thorough view
- Celtic Cross (Pro) — the classic ten-card spread for complex questions
- Relationship (Pro) — a twelve-card spread with signifier cards for two people
AI-Guided Interpretation
After you draw, Thoth can generate a personal interpretation that weaves together your cards, their positions, and your intention. Free accounts receive AI readings each day; Pro removes the daily limit. When your free readings are used up, you can spend credits (earned or purchased) to continue, or read the built-in card meanings on their own.
Card Library
A browsable reference for all 78 cards. Tap any card to see its full image, upright and reversed meanings, keywords, themes, and affirmations. Organized by suit: Major Arcana, Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles.
Reading History
Every reading is saved automatically, encrypted, and synced to your account so it's available on all your devices. Tap any past reading to view full details, or mark favourites for quick access.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Thoth: The Unknown just for spiritual people?
Not at all. Many people use tarot for reflection, self-discovery, and creative thinking — regardless of spiritual belief. You get out of it what you bring to it.
Do I need to be 18?
Yes. Thoth: The Unknown is intended for adults aged 18 and over. A date of birth confirming you meet the age requirement is required when you create your account.
Where are my readings stored?
Your account, profile, and reading history are stored securely in our EU-hosted cloud (Supabase, Frankfurt, Germany) and cached on your device for offline access. Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted so only you can read your own data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do AI readings work?
When you request an interpretation, your drawn cards, their positions, and your intention are sent to an AI provider (Google Gemini by default, or Anthropic Claude) to generate a personal reading. Free accounts get AI readings each day; Pro removes the limit.
What does Pro include, and how do I cancel?
Pro unlocks all eleven spreads, unlimited AI readings, more daily intentions, and a streak freeze. It's available monthly, yearly, or as a one-time lifetime unlock. Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID and auto-renew until cancelled — manage or cancel anytime in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone.
What are credits, and how do I get them?
Credits let free-tier users take extra readings beyond the daily allowance. You can earn a credit by choosing to watch a short rewarded ad, or buy credit packs (1, 5, or 20) through the App Store. Ads are entirely optional — you're never required to watch one.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open Settings → Account → Delete My Account in the app. This revokes your session immediately, wipes the local cache, and permanently deletes your profile and readings from our servers within 30 days. You can also email privacy@codewavemobile.com.
Does the app track me?
We don't use behavioural analytics or cross-app tracking as part of the core experience. The only advertising is an optional rewarded ad you can choose to watch to earn a credit — and only then does our ad provider (Google AdMob) collect ad-related data, after you've been shown a consent prompt. If you never tap "watch an ad," no advertising data is collected.
Can the same card appear twice in a reading?
No. Once a card is drawn in a reading it cannot appear again in that same spread — just like a physical tarot deck.
Can I use this on iPad?
Thoth: The Unknown is currently optimized for iPhone. iPad support may come in a future update.
Should I rely on tarot for major life decisions?
No. Tarot in this app is for reflection, perspective, and entertainment — not a replacement for professional advice. For medical, legal, financial, or psychological matters, always consult a qualified professional.
Troubleshooting
App won't open / crashes on startup
- Force-close the app and restart your iPhone
- Ensure your iPhone is running iOS 17 or later (Settings → General → Software Update)
- Check available storage — Thoth requires ~50 MB free
- Delete and reinstall from the App Store
Readings not saving
- Confirm you have at least 50 MB of free storage
- Restart the app (swipe up to close, then reopen)
- If the problem persists, reinstall the app
Daily card not updating
- Check Settings → General → Date & Time — automatic time zone must be on
- Force-close the app and reopen it
- Restart your iPhone
Cards appear blurry or distorted
- Update to the latest version in the App Store
- Restart your iPhone
- If you see this on a specific device, contact us with your model and iOS version
Reading History is empty or not syncing
Readings save automatically at the end of each spread and sync to your account. If history looks empty after reinstalling or switching devices, confirm you're signed in to the same account and connected to the internet, then reopen the app to let it sync. If you closed the app mid-reading, that reading won't have been saved.
